Best Teeth Cleaning Tip You'll Ever Get!

As previously mentioned we (The Beh Pack) are fairly new to Portland and if you didn't know, Portland is VERY dog friendly. Part of their dog friendliness includes lots of independent dog boutiques that sell locally made dog toys, premium kibble, raw dog food, healthy treats, etc. You get the idea. (Portland is big into organic everything.)  Most employees at these stores are very knowledgeable and helpful. One day we happened upon a cute boutique in NE Portland called Healthy Pets Northwest. (It's right by a Salt & Straw if you're in Portland and need an extra reason to stop by!) While there, getting our ice cream on, we discussed how we are terrible at remembering to brush our pups teeth and a dog trainer (I believe she was affiliated with the store) happened to overhear us and gave us a great tip! She never brushes her dogs teeth and instead gives them bone marrow bones a couple of times a week. The act of retracting the marrow from the bones, as well as the marrow itself, helps clean between their teeth. Pretty sure it's the best tip we've ever gotten. Now I don't have to feel so guilty for being a bad pet owner. haha

This is the brand we use, but I know there are others.

They devour them!
 Important Things to Remember:

1. They need to be kept frozen, but let them defrost a bit before you give one to your pup.
2. They are messy. And raw. And a little bloody. So make sure your pup is outside or you use a towel or blanket when they are inside.
3. On days that you do give bone marrow to them (again, a couple of times a week) give them a little less food because, you know, calories.
4. After the marrow is gone the bones are great! They last a very long time and don't break at all, so you don't have to worry about splinters.

What teeth cleaning tips do you have?
