This is Daisy |
We’ve been excited about a lot of things. (We’re excitable
people!) But is the biggest thing to date!
We sat down with the owners of K9
Sport Sack and their inspiration for it all, Dumpster Daisy, to bring you this
great story.
Now If you’re like us you have tried everything, and I mean
everything, to include your dog on all your adventures. We have all kinds of dog
carriers; ranging from $20-$500. We have the Lexus of dog jogging strollers
(we’ve logged marathons worth of miles with it too). Those little riding
trailers towed behind road bikes? Yeah, they aren’t for human children in this
household.
Recently, we’ve started looking for ways to bring Gracie on
hikes and snowshoeing outings; which works fine for a minute, but her little
legs are no match for long trails. We needed a solution.
Da Da Da Daaah!!!
Enter: K9 Sport Sack
Like us, they too tried everything to include their pup
Daisy on bike rides and other adventures.
Before I get ahead of myself let me start by telling you their
awesome story:
Daisy was deliberately discarded like common trash. She was
found inside an elementary school dumpster. Someone had put her in a kennel and
left her to fate in the dumpster. Luckily, a janitor found her; saving her
life.
Daisy’s, then, temporary family were admittedly not dog
people. This was okay since they had no intention of keeping her.
As soon as she got to their house the disgustingly smelly
Daisy ran and jumped on their bed snuggling up on a pillow. All the while her new
humans told Daisy that she better not get too comfortable or unpack her bags. Daisy
was a destroyer of things and not an easy dog; nonetheless, she’d made her way
into their hearts. Daisy now had a forever home.

Fast forward a bit to the inception of the K9 Sport Sack…
Daisy’s man human likes to road bike. On one occasion he
found himself being chased by a tire biting Daisy. Her human scooped her up and
rode with Daisy held precariously under his arm.
It’s after this fairly dangerous and difficult ride that her
humans decided they needed a real way to ride with Daisy on the bike.

First try keeping Daisy contained |
Thus started the search for a bag that would fit their
needs.
–Here is where we bonded with Daisy’s family over the frustrating search
for the perfect bag that just hasn’t existed before—
They describe the first sack as being basically a pillowcase
with straps.
There was no intention of creating a bag for anyone other than
themselves, but after being stopped numerous times by people asking where one
can buy this bag; Daisy’s humans decided they might actually be able to make
this work for them.
Using all their savings they took the leap and had 100 bags
made. With a plan to try selling the bags
at a Petapalooza event. By noon they were sold out and taking back orders!
Daisy’s humans knew they were onto something.
Since then there have been many phases of the bag to get
where it is today. A man once set on being a history teacher now works for
himself fulltime (but let’s be real, he really works for Daisy). They’ve just
adopted their second dog, after long ago becoming what they never thought they’d
be: dog people.
I’m pretty sure that’s the ideal outcome for any dog story!
(Does you heart feel like it's glowing? 'Cause ours is! Thanks for reading!)
